Tomorrow (Thursday, 26 January 2006), American pro-gun ownership activist, Larry Pratt will speak at a gathering of about 180 firearm owners at Parow Civic Centre in Cape Town, 18h30.

In his book, On the Firing Line Pratt said, "the real debate over guns is not about guns, but control. The debate is really about who (or what) will control the lives of private citizens. Will it be each person individually? Or will it be the government?"

"We don't need more gun control," says Pratt, "we need more government control."

"Gun control is dangerous because it produces helpless victims," said Pratt. Pratt discussed how gun control always precedes genocide. "The genocides in Rwanda, Cambodia and Nazi Germany to name but a few, were all preceded by gun control."

Pratt warned that the draconian Firearms Control Act could lead to the political disasters of Zimbabwe. "If South Africans do not engage in massive civil disobedience and arm themselves to the teeth, Zimbabwe will be their future," Pratt said.

Pratt concluded by saying, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people."

Pratt is well known in the US for his pro-gun ownership position, appearance on numerous radio and television shows and for lobbying the pro-gun position in Washington. Pratt supports the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, particularly the right to self-defense.

Pratt has been the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America for 25 years and has debated numerous Unites States congressmen and senators including former Vice President Al Gore.

He has published two books, On the Firing Line: Essays in the Defense of Liberty in 2001 and Armed People Victorious in 1990. He was the editor of Safeguarding Liberty: The Constitution and Militias.

> Pratt will also be promoting the newly formed Gun Owners of South Africa,
> as well as researching the effects of the Firearms Control Act to report
> back to his constituents and members in the USA, to mobilize international
> support for the right of South Africans to own guns.
