A Durban man believes that millions of South Africans have had enough of crime and are prepared to put their signatures to a petition stating just that.

Shane Pillay believes he can get a total of three million signatures on a petition which will call on the government to change its "relaxed attitude towards crime and criminals".

He and his supporters, of the South Africans Unite Against Crime organisation, are collecting signatures in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town, and are planning "a march for justice" in the three cities to hand over their monster petition to government representatives.

They are hoping to hand one to President Thabo Mbeki.

'Every person has a right to safety'

Organisation supporters are seeking permission to hold an anti-crime march on February 17, 2007.

"We are all sick of crime and people now want the government to get its act together. Under the constitution, every person has a right to safety. Unfortunately, that right has been violated," said Pillay, the march co-ordinator, on Monday.

Marshals, team leaders and businesses, or Anyone wanting petition forms or wanting to get involved can contact Pillay at 072 7280 075 or 031 368 4491.
