STAFF at a Port Elizabeth accounting and auditing firm were the victims of mistaken identity yesterday, as three armed robbers demanded all their possessions after apparently mistaking the firm for a jewellery store.

Three men claiming to be from a freight company delivering a parcel to the Cape Road firm, were let inside by the receptionist. “Once they got inside,” said Abie Miller of SAB&T, “the men brought out guns and told the receptionist that it was a stickup.”

The men marched the receptionist into Miller’s office and proceeded to demand all of the jewellery in the store. “I had to tell them that we aren’t a jewellery store. We’re just an accounting firm, and we don’t keep money on the premises.”

The burglars responded by robbing the staff of cellphones, watches and an undisclosed amount of money.
