Johannesburg - Two men were arrested after trying to hijack a man who had
stopped to ask for directions in East London, police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent Mtati Tana said the man had stopped in Sunnyridge to ask the
men for directions when they grabbed him and held him at gunpoint.
He got out and stepped away from the vehicle but then drew his own firearm
but the robbers shot at him.
They missed and hit the vehicle instead and ran away.
The driver drove to a nearby Pick 'n Pay and reported the incident to a
policeman from the dog unit who was present and the policeman traced the
robbers.
One was shot in the leg during the arrest.
The men, aged 24 and 39 will appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on
Wednesday.
