A Doornpoort man is in a serious condition after robbers shot him in
the chest in his house early on Tuesday.

Ronnie Nyalunga, in his mid-30s, had to undergo emergency surgery at
the Montana Hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain Lucas Sithole said two or three suspects
entered Nyalunga's house in Barentz Place near Airport Road at about
3.30am.

It is believed he went to investigate and was confronted by the
robbers. One shot was fired and Nyalunga was hit in the chest.

Details are sketchy as Nyalunga is not able to give the police a statement.

The robbers took cellphones, electronic equipment and other personal belongings.

Nyalunga's wife and child were unharmed.

Sithole said no one had been apprehended yet, but police were
investigating charges of attempted murder and armed robbery.

Nick Dollman of Netcare 911 said their paramedics responded to the
call just after 3.35am.

"The victim was in a critical condition following a gunshot wound to
his chest," Dollman said.

There was no exit wound. The victim was put on emergency life support.

Residents in the area claimed this was the third incident of its kind
in the area in the past week.

Sithole could not give statistics to confirm this, but said several
incidents had been reported to police in the past three months.

"We are following up all information in these cases. If anyone has
anything that can help, they must call the Sinoville police station,"
he said.
