The recovery of a stolen firearm has led to the arrest of six suspects.
Police spokesperson Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the six were arrested
on Sunday after Villieria police, carrying out a routine operation,
spotted three men acting suspiciously. "The police pulled the men over
and searched their vehicle."
Ramaloko said they found a firearm not licensed to any of the suspects
and arrested the men charging them with being in possession of stolen
property.
They then traced the owner of the gun through the serial number.
Upon questioning the owner, police found that his firearm was stolen
months before but he did not report the theft. His wife's firearm had
also gone missing at the same time. The couple were charged with
negligent handling of firearms and arrested. The initial suspects
confessed that an employee of the gun owner had given them the weapon
after stealing it. They will appear in court soon.
